Privacy policy

Film Ratings for Wikipedia is designed to provide ratings without accounts, advertising, analytics, or developer tracking.

Information the extension handles

On supported Wikipedia pages, the extension reads public page content needed to identify films. This may include article titles, linked film titles, release years, Wikipedia article identifiers, and Wikidata entity identifiers.

The extension requests public data from Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Letterboxd. Those requests may include a film title, Wikidata entity ID, or Letterboxd film slug. Like other internet requests, the destination service may receive standard network information such as the user's IP address and browser request headers under that service's own privacy policy.

How information is used

Information is used only to verify film matches, retrieve public aggregate ratings and rating counts, display those results on Wikipedia, and provide a direct film link in the extension popup.

Browser storage

Removing the extension removes extension-managed browser storage according to the browser's normal behavior.

Sharing and sale

The publisher does not receive, sell, rent, or use extension data for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness, or unrelated purposes. The extension has no developer-operated analytics or data server. Public identifiers are transmitted only to Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Letterboxd as necessary to provide the visible rating feature.

Security

All network requests made by the extension use HTTPS. All executable code is packaged with the extension; it does not download or execute remote code.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

The extension's use and transfer of information received from browser APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to provide or improve the extension's single, user-facing purpose and is not used for personalized advertising. Humans do not read user data except with the user's specific consent for support, for security, to comply with applicable law, or after aggregation and anonymization where policy permits.

Children and sensitive information

The extension is not intended to collect personal information from children or anyone else. It does not request names, email addresses, payment information, authentication information, health information, precise location, personal communications, or user-generated content.

Changes

If extension data practices change, this policy and the Chrome Web Store disclosures will be updated before the changed practice is released.
